Writer • Improviser • Performer • Teaching Artist
I improvise shows in different styles and genres. I've toured to 30-something countries in five continents, performing, directing and teaching. My book The Improviser's Way, A Longform Workbook is published by Nick Hern Books. I perform with lots of companies including Project2, Hell Yeah!, Brand New Musical, We Built This City on Rock and Coal and Track96. I was a member of The Maydays from 2004 - 2022. I perform in theatres, on the radio and in the digital space. I designed improv curriculum for Hoopla, the UK's largest improv school and for Fennec in Saudi Arabia.
I make - and often perform - theatre shows in different genres, including cosmic horror (The Ice at the End of the World), folk horror (Let's Summon Demons) and standup/storytelling (Schutte the Unromantic). I've toured festivals, performed at the Paines Plough Roundabout and had a three-week run in London's Omnibus Theatre.
I write and perform immersive theatre. I've been working with FANDCO, Storyfutures, CreativeXR, Digital Catapult, Flipside, ACE and Bristol Improv Theatre for the past few years to make augmented and virtual reality and multi-platform work that is written or part-improvised. I was the first improv performer in VR (with Chris Mead and Tony Harris) thanks to AltVR and have worked with Make Real, TOMtech and OMUK.
I write in many mediums which have included musical theatre, a textbook on improvisation, songs for children's radio, web series, feature film, augmented and virtual reality shows and games, the board game Cards Against Humanity and dramaturgy for The Lasters, a concept album by Fred Deakin. You can see many of my sexy awards at the top of this page.
